Stratford Councilman Resigns, Tries to Take it Back

The Republican councilman submitted a letter of resignation and then sent a second letter less than 90 minutes later to rescind it.

STRATFORD, CT — The Stratford Town Council may have more than one vacancy after Republican Mark Dumas resigned his seat on Monday morning but then changed his mind less than 90 minutes later.

The Connecticut Post reports Dumas, a lawyer, submitted a letter of resignation that was “effective immediately” due to family and work obligations but he then submitted a second letter to the town clerk’s office saying he would remain a councilman.

Town officials, however, told the Post that he most likely would have to run in a special election if he wants his seat back.
