Stratford DUI Driver Nearly Hit Cop Car: Trumbull Police

The officer had to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision, police said.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford woman was arrested after she nearly hit a police cruiser while driving under the influence March 8 in Trumbull, according to police.

Trumbull Police say an officer was driving on Route 108 when a vehicle sharply cut in front of him, forcing him to hit the brakes. He pulled over the operator, identified as Ruth Costa, 40, who police say appeared intoxicated.

She failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Her BAC was recorded at .1308 and .1228, both over the legal limit, police said. She was held in lieu of $1,000 bail.
