Stratford Election 2015 Results: Voters Decide Sewer Plant Sale

In addition to the referendum on the controversial sewer plant sale, Stratford Democrats enjoyed a big night.

In addition to Stratford residents soundly defeating the controversial sale of the town’s sewer system facilities to the Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority in a referendum vote, the Democrats enjoyed a big night in Tuesday’s municipal election.

The referendum vote on the sewer system failed 7,823-to-2,476 and Democrats won six of the 10 town council seats, according to the Connecticut Post.

The new council will face some difficult decisions immediately.

With the rejection of the sewer plant sale, Mayor John Harkins and the council will have to make adjustments to the town’s $207.5 million budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year, which accounted for the sale of the plant, but now has a $5.2 million budget gap without it, according to the Stratford Star.
