Stratford Finance Director Dies From Coronavirus Complications

Finance Director Jay Wahlberg died after contracting the virus, Stratford's mayor reported Friday afternoon.

STRATFORD, CT — Stratford's finance director, Jay Wahlberg, has died of complications from the new coronavirus, the mayor's office reported Friday afternoon.

"Jay was an integral member of the Town of Stratford management team. He was well-respected, accomplished and a friend to all who knew him," Mayor Laura Hoydick said in a news release.

Wahlberg was appointed Stratford’s finance director in January 2017 by Mayor John Harkins. He previously served as controller of the towns of Brookfield and Ridgefield, and as Groton’s assistant finance director. He received numerous professional awards and distinctions over the course of his career.

"We in his Town Hall family are heartbroken over the loss of him, and our condolences and prayers go out to his wife Marlene and his family," Hoydick said in the news release. "He will be deeply missed."

As of Stratford's most recent new coronavirus update Wednesday, five town residents had died after contracting the virus. As of Thursday, the state was reporting 196 confirmed cases in town and 9,784 confirmed cases across Connecticut.
