Stratford Gas Station Burglary Suspect Found Under Bushes: Cops

He caused about $2,000 in damage and stole about $300 in merchandise, police said.

STRATFORD, CT — A suspect in a Stratford burglary was found hiding under some bushes in Fairfield, according to police.

Matthew Russell Walsh, 47, of Wethersfield, is charged with burglary, larceny, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, Stratford police said in a news release.

The burglary happened after 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Citgo gas station at 805 Main St., where the suspect caused about $2,000 in damage to the business and stole about $300 in merchandise, according to police. The suspect and his red Pontiac Sunfire were both captured on surveillance video.

About eight hours later, detectives saw the Sunfire and tried to stop it, according to police, but the driver refused to pull over and escaped the officers. Not long after, the Sunfire was seen in Fairfield, and a K-9 helped track the suspect to some bushes, police said, where they found Walsh and took him into custody.

Walsh was held on a $100,000 bond and is set to appear in court Oct. 25, according to police.
