Stratford Man Charged with Rest Area Robbery in Orange: Police

State Police say the Route 15 robbery occurred during the overnight hours on Thanksgiving.

ORANGE, CT — A Stratford man has been charged in connection to the robbery of a rest area convenience store on Route 15 in Orange during the overnight hours on Thanksgiving, according to Connecticut State Police.

State Troopers from Troop I in Bethany responded to the Alltown gas station/convenience store on the northbound side of Route 15 at about 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 24 on the report of a robbery.

Alltown employees told the responding troopers that a white male suspect had entered the store and demanded the money from the cash register. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving and fleeing the area in a vehicle, according to police.

Police said a weapon was implied, but not displayed and nobody was injured in the robbery.

Detectives from the Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Through their initial investigation they were able to obtain surveillance footage of the suspect.

After several weeks they were able to positively identify the suspect as James Walsh, 34, of Stratford who was taken into custody early Thursday morning (Dec. 8), according to police.

Walsh, of White Street, was arrested on charges of third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Dec. 8.
