FAIRFIELD, CT — A Stratford man is charged after he was seen burglarizing a van in Fairfield, according to police. Bryan Robert Cascio, 48, entered a van parked in a driveway on Ardmore Street, a Fairfield police report said, but Cascio left the scene after he was confronted by the person to whom the van belonged.

Officers found Cascio about a block away. When questioned, he said he did not enter any vehicles, according to the report.

Cascio had a set of keys in his pocket, which he said were the keys to a friend's van, according to the report. The friend had given Cascio permission to drive the vehicle, Cascio said, according to the report. Police contacted the vehicle's owner, who said Cascio stole the vehicle while he was asleep, but he did not want to press charges because Cascio is a recovering addict, the report said.
