Stratford Mayor’s Reading Champion Program Returns

The program is open to Stratford residents ages 12 and younger.

STRATFORD, CT — As the school year comes to a close, Mayor Laura R. Hoydick is kicking off the 2022 Mayor’s Reading Champion program.

Hoydick is inviting all Stratford youth 12 years old and younger to commit to reading at least eight books this summer. The program concludes with a celebratory reception on Wednesday, Aug. 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the grounds of the historic Perry House.

The program returns for its ninth year. In the past, nearly 1,900 students have read more than 15,200 books to complete the challenge. The Office of the Mayor and the Stratford Library, in partnership with Stratford public and private schools, sponsor the program.

“I am pleased to encourage summer reading in Stratford’s youth,” Hoydick said. “The importance of raising a community of readers is vital to the growth of our youngest constituents. I look forward to celebrating our Reading Challenge winners in August. Keep reading this summer.”
