Stratford St. Patrick's Day Festivities Announced

The Irish flag will be raised, the Irish Mayor for the Day will be named, and the Irish Soda Bread contest returns. Read details here.

STRATFORD, CT — This year’s Irish flag raising ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 17 at Stratford Town Hall.

Residents are invited to attend the ceremony that will include remarks from Mayor Laura R. Hoydick and elected officials, including Senator Kevin Kelly who will be acting as Master of Ceremonies.

The “Irish Mayor for the Day” will be revealed at the ceremony. The ceremony will include performances from the Stratford High School band, a bagpiper and the Lenihan School of Irish Dance.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to be called the best Irish Soda Bread baker in all of Stratford, then show it by participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Irish Soda Bread Contest, a free activity that is open to all Stratford residents.

Contestants are asked to bring their entries to Council Chambers at Town Hall (Second Floor) at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 17.

The following rules will apply:

  • A name tag and telephone number should be placed with each entry;
  • Entries must be made from an original recipe and not store bought;
  • Entries containing nuts or related ingredients should be clearly indicated on name tag;
  • The decision of the judges will be final; and
  • Immediate family members of the judges may not submit an entry.
