Stratford Stop & Shop Worker Dies After Getting Coronavirus
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the associate's family, friends and community," a Stop & Shop spokeswoman said.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford Stop & Shop employee died after contracting the new coronavirus, according to a store spokeswoman.
"All of us at Stop & Shop are deeply saddened by this news," Jennifer Brogan, Stop & Shop's director of external communications and community relations, said in an email. "This associate was a part of our team, and this is a tremendous loss for us and for the Stratford store. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the associate's family, friends and community."
The part-time employee last worked March 20 at the store, located at 200 E. Main St., Brogan said. Workers who were in close contact with the person were asked to self-quarantine and any employees who feel sick are required to stay home, according to Brogan, who added the store has been deep-cleaned.

Additional safety precautions taken by Stop & Shop include:
- Giving workers gloves, masks and hand sanitizer;
- Disinfecting high touch points throughout the day;
- Closing stores at 8 p.m. for extra cleaning and stocking;
- Offering disinfecting wipes near the store entrance;
- Installing plastic guards at the registers;
- Implementing capacity limits and one-way aisles.
"We will continue to implement extensive measures to help ensure that our stores and facilities are as safe as possible," Brogan said.

As of Thursday, the state was reported 9,784 coronavirus cases in Connecticut, 380 of which were associated with the death of a patient and 4,882 of which were in Fairfield County.
