CT Coronavirus Updates: 68 New Deaths Reported, 754 Cases
The number of new hospitalizations also increased over the past 24 hours, according to new data from the state health department.
CONNECTICUT — The latest number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in Connecticut has now exceed 10,000. The state Department of Public Health is now reporting 10,538 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.
State officials said 1,562 people are currently hospitalized. A total of 448 people have died. The change over the past 24 hours is an increase of 754 positive cases, 68 deaths and 98 hospitalizations.
But state officials added context to the 68 newly reported deaths: "Of 68 deaths newly included in today’s report, 19 were persons who tested positive for COVID-19 and 49 were persons who died during March 30–April 8 without being tested for COVID-19 whose death certificate listed COVID-19 disease as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death."

Here are the positive coronavirus cases and deaths by county:
- Fairfield County 5,180 cases; 203 deaths
- Hartford County 1,615 cases; 88 deaths
- Litchfield County 346 cases; 16 deaths
- Middlesex County 240 cases; 17 deaths
- New Haven County 2,383 cases; 98 deaths
- New London County 156 cases; seven deaths
- Tolland County 152 cases; 14 deaths
- Windham County 59 cases; one deaths
- Pending address validation 407 cases; four deaths
Of the 448 total deaths, 249 were people over the age of 80; 101 were between 70 and 79; 61 were between 60 and 69; 19 were between 50 and 59; 11 were between 40 and 49; five were between 30 and 39; one was between 20 and 29; and one was a newborn. A total of 246 men have died and 200 women.

Nursing home numbers:
Among 215 nursing homes in Connecticut, 96 (45 percent) have had at least one confirmed case of COVID-19. A total of 980 nursing home residents with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 have been identified of whom 264 (27 percent) were hospitalized and 142 (14 percent) have died.
