Stratford Teacher Wins Presidential Award

Christopher Newlan, an eighth-grade science teacher at David Wooster Middle School, received the honor.

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford instructor has been given a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Christopher Newlan, an eighth-grade science teacher at David Wooster Middle School, received the honor, the Stratford Board of Education announced in a news release. The award is given annually to one math teacher and one science teacher in each state and U.S. territory. Newlan is Connecticut’s winner for Excellence in Science Teaching. He was chosen out of hundreds of applicants across the country.

"Please join the Stratford Board of Education in recognizing Christopher for his dedication to the Stratford Public School students, staff and families," the news release said. "He is truly an inspiring educator and this honor is well deserved."
