Stratford Wrestler Wins State Open Championship Title
Stratford also had two champions at the Class L wrestling championships, along with several others who placed in the meet.
STRATFORD, CT — Stratford High School’s James Duhancik won the State Open wrestling championship at 220 pounds Saturday at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
Duhancik defeated Fitch’s Naszier Matthews for the title.
Stratford’s Jake Kszywanos placed third at 195 pounds.

Xavier-Middletown won the team championship for the second straight year with 175.5 points. New Fairfield was second with 121.5 points, while Newtown finished third with 120.
Stratford finished in 13th place with 55 points, while Bunnell was 67th with 6 points.

In the Girls Wrestling Invitational, Stratford’s Lindsey Rywolt finished fourth at 120 pounds, and teammate Shyan Rolle was third at 132 pounds.
Duhancik also won the Class L championship at 220 pounds last weekend.
Kszywanos also won a Class L title at 195 pounds.
Several other Stratford wrestlers placed at the Class L championships, which were held at Guilford High School.
Stratford’s Marcus Cavallo placed sixth at 120 pounds, while Bunnell’s Giovanny Jeanty placed sixth at 126 pounds.
In the 132-pound division, Stratford’s Nathaniel Nagel finished third and Bunnell’s Maurice Ellis was sixth.
Stratford’s Justin Duhancik finished third at 182 pounds, and Bunnell’s Carl Mullings finished second at 285 pounds.
Stratford finished fifth overall with 139 team points, while Bunnell was 11th with 61.
