Stung: Brakettes Sweep Doubleheader
The Stratford Brakettes swept a doubleheader last night against the Shoreline Sting, improving their record to 51-0 on the season and adding to a 100-game-plus unbeaten streak.

The Stratford Brakettes added two wins last night to their stellar 2011 campaign, sweeping a doubleheader against the Shoreline Sting and improving to 51-0 on the season.
At the friendly confines of DeLuca Field, the Brakettes took the first game 9-0 before completing the sweep in a 12-0 victory in game two.
"We gave everything back to that team that they gave us," Coach John Stratton said after game one. "If they executed a good pitch, we hit back at them even harder and I believe this will carry us to do great this season.”
Rachel Massik pitched a gem in the first half of the twin billing, shutting down 19 of the 21 batters she faced. Becca Carden led the offensive charge in game one with a three-run home run.
"We cannot wait for finals," said shortstop Mandie Fishback and second baseman Ashley Waters, collectively. "We have always been a strong team, even before any of us joined and we make sure to work together and have a good time with every game.
"In a league like this, we play all ages and teams from all over and, even though sometimes we have off nights, we expect to come out on top. It is a lot of work, but we love it.”
Brakettes pitching has not surrendered a run in the last 14 games. Furthermore, they have only given up nine runs over the whole of the season.
The Stratford Brakettes play Mirage Gold at 7 p.m. tonight at DeLuca Field. And just around the corner is the Women's Major Softball National Championship from Aug. 4 to Aug 7, to be held in Stratford.
