Teen, 13, Arrested For Reckless Bike Riding: Stratford Police
Police say the teen was riding his bike in the center of the road and showing a "total disregard for oncoming traffic."
STRATFORD, CT — A 13-year-old Stratford resident was arrested Monday after police say he was riding his bicycle down the center line of the road and causing a “clear traffic hazard.” The teen was arrested near Paradise Green after an officer saw him riding his bike in the hazardous manner on Huntington Road and through the intersection of Main Street and Huntington with a “total disregard for oncoming traffic,” according to Capt. Frank Eannotti.
Eannotti said once the teen was stopped, he was uncooperative with police and subsequently charged with interfering with an officer, failure to ride a bicycle to the right and town ordinance violation for reckless or uncontrolled riding. The juvenile was later turned over to his guardian and issued a summons for the above, according to Eannotti.
“The Town of Stratford has an ordinance prohibiting reckless and uncontrolled bicycle riding as a result of numerous complaints and traffic issues related to reckless riding and traffic safety,” Eannotti said. “Violations of the ordinance may result in enforcement of the ordinance as well as bicycles used during the violation being seized. All cyclists are encouraged to ride safely and responsibly and to refrain from riding in the travel portion of the road, recklessly on sidewalks and to not cause hazards to motor vehicle or pedestrian traffic.”
