Watermark University offers Summer Classes Available to Bridgeport-Area Seniors

Active aging classes designed to keep seniors physically and mentally fit

The Watermark at 3030 Park recently released its Watermark University Summer semester catalog with classes available for residents and Bridgeport-area seniors. A continuing education program, Watermark University features seminars, lectures, and courses covering a range of diverse topics designed to keep seniors’ minds and bodies fit. Classes are held at The Watermark at 3030 Park, a senior living community located at 3030 Park Avenue, on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.
“Watermark University is one of the initiatives we are most proud of in our community,” said Marlane Argianas, Resident Services Coordinator at The Watermark at 3030 Park. “The program is a great opportunity for our residents and seniors in the area to participate in a wide range of new activities and learning experiences that encourage a healthier, happier, and more active lifestyle.”
For those interested in learning the advantages of online banking, a new Watermark University seminar, titled “Online Banking 101” will provide participants with information on how to use internet banking to save time and money. Instructed by Carol Young of People’s Bank, the class is designed to walk through the steps of online banking and provide information to prevent people from falling victim to fraud. The seminar will take place on Thursday, July 16th at 2:30pm.
Back by popular demand, the seminar “Consumer Scam Prevention” will discuss Medicare fraud and consumer scams that target older adults. This seminar is brought to The Watermark by Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), a volunteer program funded by the U. S. Administration for Community Living. The presentation will describe common scams, acknowledge the potential for fraud and abuse and give tips on what consumers should watch for to avoid becoming victims. The course will also provide resources dedicated to consumer protection and reporting fraud. The Consumer Scam Prevention seminar is open to seniors and their families and will be held on Friday, June 12th at 2:30pm.
Every Thursday throughout the summer, The Watermark will also host a knitting group open to both men and women. This class offers the opportunity to give back to children in the community by creating hand-crafted hats and mittens. Members of the knitting group work hard to create and knit more than 500 hats and mittens, which are then donated to Bridgeport non-profit organizations during the winter months. The class is open to all levels of knitters and is held every Thursday at 10am.
Other class topics include history, fitness, music, and the arts. Most Watermark University classes are free of charge and open to the public. Due to a limited number of seats, reservations are required.
