West Nile Virus Found in Stratford Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes in six other towns have tested positive for the virus this summer.

Mosquitoes that were trapped at Beacon Point in Stratford on Aug. 5 have tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to NBC Connecticut.
NBC reports that Stratford becomes the seventh town in the state to have mosquitoes test positive for the virus this summer, joining Darien, Guilford, New Haven, Waterford, West Haven and Stamford.
The mosquitoes that tested positive were Culex restuans, which are primarily a bird-biting mosquito but can bite humans, according to NBC.

Andrea Boissevain, Stratford’s Director of Health, said the following in a statement, via NBC Connecticut:
“We’ve been watching other towns around us with positive mosquitoes, so, it was only a matter of time. We urge residents to take quick and easy steps to prevent exposure and bites like wearing long sleeves, especially at dawn and dusk and use insect repellent!”
