Woman, 87, In Legal Battle With Relatives Who Want To Evict Her
The Stratford woman's nephew and niece want her out of a house that they bought from her 20 years ago.
STRATFORD, CT — An 87-year-old Stratford woman's case will go to trial Wednesday after her nephew and niece filed for her immediate eviction from a home that the pair owns, according to the Connecticut Post. Maria Michaels sold her Rosebrook Drive home to her relatives, Jan and Beata Hlinka, for $165,000 in 1999 on the condition that she would live there as long as she did not become a burden to them, the Post reports.
The house is now worth over $400,000 and the Hlinkas say the time for Michaels to leave has passed, after Michaels had multiple incidents in the house, one of which resulted in a broken ankle, according to the Post. Michaels's doctor said in an affidavit that Michaels is able to care for herself independently, the Post reports.
