Lunchtime Walkers
Get in shape this fall and join a fun group of walkers! Did you know you should be walking 10,000 steps a day? Let’s enjoy the spring weather get motivated and go on a lunch time walk. All levels and abilities welcome. We will go over warming up, fitness walking and have a fun time getting you re-energized for the rest of the day! We will walk rain or shine so please bring proper gear. Even if you can only walk for a half hour, you are encouraged to join the group! Prizes will be awarded to the most dedicated walkers!! All ages and levels are welcome-our class consists of all groups including seniors, college students, and new parents with strollers and workers looking to get fit during their lunch hour!

“Anatomy of A Workout” - Free Community Lecture New!
This lecture will teach you how to incorporate injury prevention strategies into your workout, everyday life and fitness regime. This lecture is a must for everyone to help reduce injuries while you are getting fit. The discussion will include ideas on cardio vascular fitness, strength, flexibility, through intervals and circuits to maximize workout times and reduce risk of injury.

Fit-Kit Total Body NEW!
This class gives you all the tools for the anytime, anywhere or in a pinch for time, take with you workout. This is a No Excuses workout. Each class will be broken down it to 2 or 3 muscle groups. At the end of six weeks you will have a full total body workout. You won’t be bored in this class as it will have plenty of various cardio and core work that will complement the muscle groups of the week. You will love the workout and the design will be yours to keep.

Youth Programs

Art-Ventures in the Rain Forest - with Let’s Gogh Art
Art-venturers head off on a rainforest safari, discovering the wondrous and rare creatures that call it home. Journey into the world of parrots, jungle cats, snakes, red-eyed tree frogs and more, and experiment with whimsical and original art forms and techniques. Build rockin’ rain sticks, design metal art reptiles and create colorful backpacks. Throughout the voyage art adventurers learn about the importance of saving the rainforest and pick up super artist survival skills like printmaking, painting, collage and journaling. They even make their own t-shirts using a unique and unusual tie-dyeing technique. Surprises and laughter round out this fun-filled art safari! Adventurers return home with awesome works of art each week.

Speed Training Clinic (Grades 3-8)
This clinic offers a great cross training workout for athletes! Participants will learn to perform a proper warm-up before exercise, focus on the best practices of acceleration and change of direction, cool down of static stretches and core exercises. This clinic will help both boys and girls that participate in any sport, looking to enhance coordination, running technique, body weight strength, first step quickness, flexibility, injury prevention, weight loss, and most importantly a better sense of self confidence.

This is a survey of what makes science interesting. It emphasizes the practical – how science can affect every child’s life. Each day we have a brief survey of at least two of the following areas: asteroids, chemical reactions, dinosaurs, earthquakes, oceans, physics, pollution, rivers, solar eclipses and volcanoes. Each day your child will have some collaborative project to work on. The final day will include a take-home creation.

Babysitter Safety 101
This is an entry level course intended to teach age appropriate skills necessary to care for children of all ages using team babysitting, mother’s helper and individual babysitting concepts. The course focuses on safety with emphasis on prevention. Basic first aid and obstructed airway management for a conscious choking adult/child and infant will be covered. Other topics include hand washing, diapering, bottle feeding, personal safety, interview skills and many more topics. Course is 4 hours, bring a snack. Booklet, handouts and Babysitter Safety Certificate of completion included.

This fun-filled basketball clinic will introduce young athletes to a fresh new approach to basketball skills and techniques. Whether your season has already begun or you are looking for a preseason warm-up, this clinic, run by local residents and coaches, Becky Klein and Jason Qua, will provide you with an opportunity to improve your skills in a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. Emphasis will be placed on developmentally appropriate offensive and defensive skills as well as sportsmanship and team work.

The Suffield Parks & Recreation Department in conjunction with the Granby and East Granby Recreation Departments is sponsoring the following trips. All bus trips are on a first come, first paid basis and there are no refunds for trips unless a specific trip is canceled. Cost for trips is non-refundable but transferable to another person plus an additional registration fee. Everyone must pay the full price, no discounts apply. On rare occasions the bus company may cancel a trip due to severe weather conditions. All bus trips have scheduled departure and return times that are strictly followed. It is your responsibility to be at the bus on time, going to and from your trip destination. Customers who miss the bus on the scheduled departure time will be responsible for arranging and financing their own transportation. You must depart from the Town in which you register.

Suffield Parks and Recreation offers inclusive Special Needs Programs and Group
These programs foster friendships, socialization, promote community involvement and independence. The group enjoys educational presentations, fitness activities, crafting classes, games and evening trips that are inclusive. We also go on many fun outings throughout the year. The program is for high school students through adult. Enrollment is on a first come first paid basis. Volunteers are always welcome. Bowling Buddies and Outing Group
Enjoy a great evening of bowling and meeting new friends. Get some exercise and have some fun! This is for high school students through adults. Volunteer special partners, coaches and helpers are always needed and welcome! We go on many trips and have event nights throughout the year!
