Free Music Performance, Driver Refresher Course and More

Numerous events slated for the Suffield Senior Center.

Join us on Monday, Aug. 31 for a special free performance by singer, Cameron Sutphin at 6:30 p.m. followed by ice cream sundaes sponsored by Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home. Cameron performed here at the Senior Center in the past. He’s doing a farewell tour of Connecticut and Massachusetts before moving to Nashville in September. Please sign up for this free event by Aug. 24.

We are currently in need of Front Desk help Thursday afternoons 12-2 p.m. We also need some substitute volunteers that can fill in when needed. We’re also seeking someone willing to wash a few pans on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering at the Suffield Senior Center, please call us at 860-668-8830.

CHOICES Counseling: Our CHOICES counselor is available to assist you on such topics as Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement Insurance, and Long Term Care Insurance by appointment. Please call the Senior Center to schedule your appointment.

Computer Assistance – Free computer assistance is available each Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Computer Lab.

Medicare Munch & Learn—Stateline Senior Services will provide a series of free workshops beginning on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 10:30 a.m. The first of this five-part series is an overview of Medicare Parts A, B, C & D. They will discuss the differences between having a Medicare Advantage Plan which includes Part D drug coverages versus having a Medicare Supplement where the drug coverage is purchased separately. Also for discussion is the advantages and disadvantages of each option and how either might suit you at different points in your retirement. They will go over the various times of year when changes can be made and the rules for switching back and forth between these options. They will go over what to look for and questions to ask in the upcoming weeks during the annual enrollment period of Medicare, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 to determine whether or not changes are necessary to your current coverage. The four following series will discuss the specifics of a Medicare Advantage carrier:

  • October 22 – UHC 
  • November 5 - Health New England 
  • November 19 - ConnectiCare 
  • December 3 - Aetna

Medicare Munch & Learn Workshop Series -Food and beverages will be served at these workshops. The first workshop is for educational purposes and no plan specific benefits or details will be shared. Please RSVP to Stateline Senior Services at 860- 749-0482. By registering and attending any of these workshops, you will receive $1 off lunch that day. Reservations for lunch can be made by calling the Senior Center at 860-668-8830 the day prior.

Blood Pressure Screening – Held in the Clinic—Aug. 26 – sponsored by Emergency Aid Association.

Hearing Screenings—NOVA Hearing Services will provide FREE hearing screenings, clean hearing aids and check batteries and answer any questions you may have regarding your hearing or hearing devices. These screenings will be offered the first Monday of each month at 1 p.m.

KNITTING & SPINNING—Learn to spin your own yarn with Dee Haggett. If you’re interested, you can call Dee at 860-668-0081. It’s a very relaxing and rewarding hobby!

A STROKE OF COLOR ART CLASSES—Lynda Montefusco, TDA, conducts classes in oils, acrylics, colored pencil, and pen & ink. She also offers decorative painting in your choice of medium. Please contact Lynda at 860-888-9558 for more information or to join a class.

Bingo – Every Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 1 p.m.; $1 per card to play.

Bridge – Every Tuesday beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Card Room; you do not need to be an expert!

Bunco – Every Friday at 10 a.m. Fee is $5 per person which is prize money.

Dominos – Every Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m. in the Card Room.

Mah Jongg Group – Every Monday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Card Room.

Various Card Games – Every Monday, beginning at 1 p.m. and every Wednesday and Thursday beginning at 2 p.m. in the Card Room.

Wii Bowling–Every Friday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
