Suffield Library Shows Off Renovation

SUFFIELD, CT — Kent Memorial Library’s newly renovated atrium was formally opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 3, marking the completion of recent work on one of the library’s signature spaces.

Kathy Dunai, posting on behalf of the Suffield Board of Selectmen, said the ceremony celebrated the “newly renovated atrium” at Kent Memorial Library and called it “a beautiful space to enjoy.”

The renovation had been in the works for several weeks. At the April 14 meeting of the Kent Memorial Library Commission, Library Director Amy Vessella reported that the atrium project was scheduled to begin the following week, depending on weather conditions.

The project was expected to take about three weeks, and one of the ramps was expected to be blocked during the work, according to the meeting minutes.

By the commission’s May 12 meeting, Vessella reported that the hardscape for the atrium project had been completed, according to town meeting minutes.

Kent Memorial Library is located at 50 North Main St. in Suffield. The current library building was completed in 1972 and designed by Warren Platner, according to the library’s history page. The library describes the building as featuring rooms filled with light from an inner garden courtyard.

The June 3 ribbon cutting formally reopened the renovated atrium space for library visitors.
