Shopping Weekend to Spur Suffield Economy

The Suffield Chamber of Commerce brings attention to local businesses this weekend with a SHOP SUFFIELD campaign.

With Christmas just around the corner, the Suffield Chamber of Commerce hopes shoppers will head just around the corner in town for holiday gifts purchases.

SHOP SUFFIELD takes place this December 7, 8 and 9 and encourages residents near and far to shop locally in Suffield for things like presents, gift certificates for house cleaning, spa services, computer virus scans or time with a financial advisor or college and career counselor.

"It's created some real excitement," said Chamber President Lisa Pepe. "I think it's going to do really well even though this is the first year."

SHOP SUFFIELD is happening the same weekend as the Suffield Garden Club’s Homes for the Holidays, which features the Phelps-Hatheway House and two other decorated homes on Main Street open for tours. In fact, the Suffield Chamber will be offering coffee, tea and hot chocolate in front of the Hatheway House, with part of the profits going to the famous landmark.

"Our goal is to not only bring shopping dollars to Suffield, but to bring awareness to the community as to the many different businesses we have in Suffield,” explained Pepe.

There are more than 400 businesses located in Suffield, with 140 registered as members of the chamber.

“We encourage the community to go to the Member directory on our website suffieldchamber.com and see what our members have to offer not only this holiday season, but throughout the year,” said Pepe.

The Chamber's Facebook page will have more information about the event as the weekend approaches.
