Suffield's Flashback Band Takes First Place Honors at Majestic Theater

Group will compete for the grand prize on Aug. 21.

Suffield's own retro band Flashback rocked the crowd at the Majestic Theater's Open Mic Night Tuesday and took top honors over 10 other performers.

As the evening's first place winner, Flashback will compete with other weekly top acts for the summer's grand prize on August 21 at the theater.

The group was created in March by local high school musicians Ronnie Augeri, Josh Karam, and Dakota Doney, and receives funding and advisory support from Suffield's Around Town Singers. Featuring music of the 70s and 80s and some current hits, the group also includes Zack Pullen on sax, Katie Carson on trumpet, and Briana Bourassa on electric violin.

Bourassa's rendition of "Pirates of the Caribbean" showcased her fierce performing style as Doney matched her on keyboard to the approval of the full house of 150 people.

Several of the group's performers were unavailable due to scheduling conflicts, but newcomer Emily Masi premiered on stage to deliver powerful vocals during "Proud Mary" and "I Wish" which had the house grooving and responding with a standing ovation. Flashback's other female vocalist, Bella Hastings, is competing as a soloist and therefore was unable to perform with the group.
