This is the second year in a row that the Suffield–based firm has been recognized for its community contributions in the Family Business category. WMG won the Connecticut Business and Industry Association Family Business Award in 2013.

Thirty-one companies were nominated for the Family Business Award accolade across four categories.
“This is a tremendous honor for me and the entire WMG family,” Armata said. “To me it’s bigger than being a family-friendly company. It’s about being a socially responsible organization that recognizes the importance of its role in the community and the lives of its people.”

Windsor Marketing Group is an innovative in-store marketing agency that creates, produces, and delivers shopper marketing programs that inspire and influence in-store buying patterns. The company was founded in 1976 and has grown to over 120 associates serving over 3,000 clients including some of the largest retailers in the U.S.

During the recession in 2008, Armata was faced with potentially laying off 20 percent of the Windsor Marketing Group workforce, negatively impacting both the company and community. Instead, he re-purposed his team to help complete construction on the company’s new facility in Suffield.

The construction project offered job security and galvanized the WMG workforce, a team that is now working out of a state-of-the-art 160,000 square-foot facility they helped to build.

The socially-responsible innovation earned mention in the 2013 business book “Conscious Capitalism.”
The Connecticut Family Business Awards were held Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Bristol.
