UConn Student Killed In Wreck Remembered As 'Bright Light'

A memorial fund has been established to remember a UConn student who was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in Suffield.

SUFFIELD, CT — A University of Connecticut student killed in a hit-and-run crash in Suffield Saturday was remembered as a "bright light to all who met her," according to WTNH News-8. The victim was Meghan Voisine, 20, of Suffield, a junior at the university.

The crash happened at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Thrall Avenue and Route 159. Emergency crews initiated life-saving measures but the victim died as a result of her injuries.

In a statement, the Voisine family said that "Meghan was a bright light to all who met her and her infectious smile & caring attitude will be missed greatly," according to WTNH News-8. She was known among her friends "for her willingness to lend a helping hand or providing an ear for support."

Voisine was a junior majoring in marketing. She transferred to UConn from Seton Hall University in fall 2020, according to The Middletown Press.

She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the Women in Business student organization.

Memorial donations can be made to “The Meghan Voisine Fund” c/o Suffield Community Aid, 450 South Street, Suffield, CT 06078. The funds will be used to assist Suffield youth in need of support, WTNH News-8 reported.

Police believe they have found the car that struck Voisine and may have identified the driver, The Hartford Courant reported.
