Wildcat Wrestlers Lose 1st NCCC Match
The Suffield Wildcats wrestling team fell to the Somers Spartans 42-36, the team's first conference loss of the season.
In an exciting and spirited match between two undefeated NCCC rivals, the started out with three consecutive forfeits to go down 18-0 to the Somers Spartans at the start of the match. The Wildcats almost rallied for a win but came up short, finishing on the low end of a 42-36 final score.
Sophomore Paul Grimard began the Wildcats’ scoring with at pin of Somers’ Tom Conion at the 1:26 mark. After two Suffield losses, Suffield senior Sean Kucia pinned Adam Patson at the 3:41 mark and Dillion Lisk pinned Somers’ Hunter Frasca in 1:05. Suffield’s Kara Chappell lost her debut match against Christian Andrade with a pin at the 1:05 mark to bring the score to 36-18.
After sophomore Matt Guilmette lost in a tough 1-0 match, senior captain Kevin Bentz faced Somers captain Nick Zachary and scored a pin at the 1:16 mark. Fellow Suffield captain Ryan Hunihan followed with a pin at the 1:32 mark to bring the Wildcats within nine points.

Suffield freshman Aston Mikan lost a close 5-0 decision. Suffield’s senior caption Dan D'Ostuni wrestled the final bout of the match. He pinned Somers’ Eric Trombly at the 3:46 mark in Suffield's first NCCC loss with a final score of 42-36.
The Wildcats showed plenty of poise and determination in their first NCCC loss in front of an excited and boisterous crowd at Somers High School.

"It was a good match for the team," said coach Chris Potter, adding that his wrestlers will continue to work hard to improve as the season goes on.
Suffield’s overall record: 6-2; NCCC record: 4-1. The Wildcats wrestle next in the Griswold tournament on Saturday.
