Winter Storm Warning Now Issued for Suffield: UPDATE

Snowfall projections for the area have increased and the warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has now bumped the Winter Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for Hartford and Tolland counties.

Here is the latest information:

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO 10 INCHES.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP AROUND LATE MORNING AND MAY BE BRIEFLY HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. GUSTY WINDS UP TO 35 MPH COMBINED WITH THE SNOW WILL RESULT IN BLOWING SNOW AND POOR VISIBILITIES AT TIMES. THE SNOW WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT.

* IMPACTS...HAZARDOUS TRAVEL WITH SNOW COVERED ROADS AND POOR VISIBILITIES.

* WINDS...NORTHEAST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH.

Original post: It appeared all week long that Hartford and Tolland counties would largely be a miss in this significant winter storm and that is still largely true, but you’ll be getting more snow than anyone thought as late as yesterday.

For the past few days, many thought there would be little to possibly no accumulation up north but now you’re expected to receive between 4-6 inches of snow.

It’s not the foot of snow that the Connecticut coastline is expecting to receive as it is under a Blizzard Warning but it’s likely the most snow of the season thus far.

Here are the details on the Winter Weather Advisory, which is now in effect until 7 a.m. Sunday.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 4 TO 6 WITH A FEW LOCATIONS
NEARING 8 INCHES.

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP AROUND LATE MORNING AND MAY BE BRIEFLY HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. GUSTY WINDS UP TO 35 MPH COMBINED WITH THE SNOW WILL RESULT IN BLOWING SNOW AND POOR VISIBILITIES AT TIMES. THE SNOW WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT.
