HADDAM, CT — State police say they are looking for witnesses to a serious three-vehicle accident earlier this week which sent five people to area hospitals.
The accident happened June 1 around 3:23 p.m. in the area of 955 Killingworth Rd., or Route 81.
State police on Thursday released the results of an initial investigation.
According to the report, a Hyundai Azera with three people inside was northbound on Killingworth Road, while a Scion tC with two people inside was southbound.
A Honda HR-V operated by a Killingworth woman pulled out of the Dollar General driveway, attempting to turn left on Killingworth Road, the police report shows. The Honda collided with the Scion, causing it to spin and collide head-on with the Hyundai, according to state police.
Two child passengers in the Hyundai, ages 9 and 11, sustained serious injuries and were brought to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center by Life Star helicopter and Chester Ambulance. The 70-year-old female Hyundai driver was taken to Hartford Hospital for serious injuries, a police report shows. All three are West Springfield, Massachusetts residents.
A 47-year-old female driver and 24-year-old female passenger of the Scion, both from Niantic, were taken to Hartford Hospital for their injuries, which police described as minor.
The 71-year-old Honda driver was not injured, according to police.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Troop F at 860-399-2100.
