Andrew Parker Selected as Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year

East Haddam resident honored by Saint Anselm College for demonstrating a commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field.

Senior defenseman Andrew Parker (East Haddam, Conn.), a member of the men's soccer team, was selected as the male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, having been named to the Saint Anselm College Dean’s List seven times. He was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student athlete honor society, as a junior and is a member of three additional National Honor Societies. He was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference Team and the NE-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman.

As a member of the Saint Anselm College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, he represented the college at several Northeast-10 Conference meetings and participated in the annual Make-A-Wish fundraising drive. He also participated in the NCAA Career in Sports Leadership Forum. As a four year member of the men’s soccer team under Head Coach Peter Ramsey, Parker served as a team captain, leading the Hawks defense while appearing in 73 games in his career, ranking 11th all-time in program history in that category.  The defenseman has logged 6,539 minutes of playing time across four seasons, the highest totals by a Saint Anselm player in recorded history. He was the only player in this year's graduating class to have started each and every single game, for the Hawks since joining the team as a freshman in 2008.

Senior captain Bianca Ciuffredo (Worcester, Mass.) of the women’s cross country team was selected as the female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Having been named to the Saint Anselm College Dean’s List three separate times, she is a member of two National Honor Societies in the fields of Psychology and the Social Science and has participated in a significant number of research projects and has presented at numerous psychology meetings and conferences.

In addition, Ciuffredo took part in three Saint Anselm College Spring Break Alternative trips and has worked with troubled youths in the Manchester community. As a four-year member of the women’s cross country team, this team captain competed in this year’s NCAA East Regional cross country meet.

The Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year candidates are identified from pre-determined academic criteria - the student-athlete must have maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher alongside significant academic and athletic credentials while also serving their community. The award was designed to honor and celebrate a male and female student athlete who demonstrates a commitment to excellence both in the classroom and on the playing surface.
