Lyme Disease Vaccine For Dogs May Be More Harmful Than Good

I just wanted to let everyone know about the Lyme Vaccine issues we encountered with our puppy, Max. Since we live in CT and is noted that it has a lot of deer ticks, we decided to get the dog Lyme vaccine as our vet recomended for Max. The main reason was past thought of friends and neighbors that had strong issues with the disease and how they suffered. Since our puppy was only approx. 12 pounds and not due to get much bigger, we didn't want him to go through that at all.

We brought Max in to get the first of 2 shots and were told, if anything, he would be lethargic. Well, he was anything but! It was as if somebody gave him a gallon of espresso coffee, topped with a 5 lb. bag of sugar and some pep pills thrown in for good measure. He was off the wall! All prior training went out the window once he got that shot.

We ended up needing to give him 1/2 of a benadryl administered 1/2 on day and the other 1/2 the next day just to calm him down and break the cycle he was in. When I checked on line about the shot, I found a lot of websites stating how much it could harm the dog including but not limited to aggressiveness, nerve damage and renal failure along with information that dogs process Lyme Disease different than humans as well as them getting rid of it better than we can without the need for meds.

I canceled the second shot since the side effects were a lot worse than his chances were of getting it. A few days later a client that is a vet tech advised that there are now studies going on where they think that the Lyme Vaccine is actually giving the dogs Lyme Disease instead of vaccinating them against the disease. This was due to a rapid increase of dog contracting Lyme Disease after they received the vaccination.

Right now we need to wait for the next 3 months to see if he has any issues that can crop up due to the shot. Hopefully, there will be none, but all we can do is wait and see what happens. I am passing this information on so each of you that has a dog can decide for themselves if the vaccine is right for their situation.
