Confluence Studio Opens At Scovil Mill

Confluence is defined as “a coming or flowing together, a combined stream formed by conjunction.”

This is what Confluence Studio, a new Higganum co-op for architects and designers, is all about: joining of minds in a co-working environment.

Elizabeth Bazazi, an architectural designer who specializes in green construction and environmentally focused building, said she co-founded Confluence to share office expenses, but mostly to share information and ideas.

“This has been a dream of mine for 20 years,” said Bazazi.

 “With a flowing of ideas, we come together and work together yet we remain separate throughout the process,” explained Bazazi. “We are all independent practioners but we have the ability to go after larger projects that we couldn’t go after if we were alone.” 

Heather Greenaway, a landscape architect, says the sharing is why she joined the co-op, “If we are all working away in our little cocoons what we really miss is the interchanging of ideas.”

In their growing stage Confluence has many dreams and goals.

“It’s potential, it will grow, it’s evolving,” says Katharine Toledano, an architect and co-founder who has a particular interest in sacred space design.

Some of the other members of Confluence include, Bill Cowan, an architect; Brian Proctor a design-build contractor and fine woodworker; and Lisa Liesner, a green building focused civil engineer.

Confluence is having a studio opening celebration on Friday, May 13 from 5-7 p.m., 11 Scovil Road, Higganum.
