Search Suspended For Missing Swimmer: CT DEEP

CT DEEP officials said the search for a man who went missing in the Connecticut River has been suspended.

EAST HADDAM, CT — The search for a missing swimmer in the Connecticut River was suspended Monday, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

"Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police and the State Police Dive Team have suspended search and recovery operations in the Connecticut River, Lyme, for a missing 42-year-old male drowning victim," DEEP officials said Monday evening on Twitter. "No further operations are planned at this time pending further developments."

Authorities said emergency crews were searching for a man who went missing in the Connecticut River on Sunday evening, according to media reports.

According to News 8, authorities said crews were expected to be back out on the river Monday to search for the man, who went missing in the area of the Hadlyme Ferry and Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam. Authorities also said the man was swimming with a friend and some children when he did not resurface.

According to Fox 61, DEEP officials said the area is not designated for swimming, as the water is over thirty feet deep.
