East Haddam Preschool Unveils New Sign

Just in time for its August open house and the new school year.

This summer, the East Haddam Preschool unveiled a new sign that proudly displays the school's name along with a hand-painted picture of an apple tree. A similar apple tree image is also featured on the school's brochures and is representative of the large apple tree that graces the school's play yard.

"Come Learn Under the Apple Tree with Us" is one of the school's mottoes and is echoed in the design of the new sign. The sign was designed and painted by Hannah Klinetob, parent and board member of the preschool.

Nancy Jascot, Director of the preschool, is thrilled to display the school's new sign and is extremely thankful to Klinetob for all of her hard work in making it happen.

Located in Moodus on Plains Road, the  enrolls pre-kindergarten children ages 3-5 years old.

The core teaching method at the school is based on a developmental philosophy and approach, according to the Director. Jascot feels that all children mature at different rates and each child will go through a predictable cycle of developmental stages.

As such, Jascot designed the program "to stimulate each child’s individual creativity and his his/her transition into a formal kindergarten atmosphere."

Jennifer Emerson is a parent whose son went through both the three-year old and four-year old programs at the school.

"The East Haddam Preschool played a significant role in my son's growing self-confidence this year. He is more than ready for kindergarten," she says. "I owe his academic, social and emotional growth and development to his teachers and the school."

The school is currently enrolling for the 2011-2012 school year and is holding an open house Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for those interesting in meeting the school's teachers and learning more about the its programs. (see flyer)

Each daily program is carefully planned by Jascot and para-professional Kim Danaher to include language development, pre-math and pre-reading skills. Scissor skills, directionality, sequencing and sorting are reinforced through projects and games.

Jascot's philosophy that she passes on to her students is "our work is our play."
