Elsie Cone Passes Away at Age 96

Life-long East Haddam resident, avid gardener, writer and story-teller.

 

Elsie M. Cone, 96, of East Haddam, loving wife of the late R. Sherwood Cone Sr., passed away Sunday, December 4 at Middlesex Hospital.

Elsie was born in East Haddam, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Kudy) Rozensky.

She was an avid gardener, loved to write; especially poems and letters, and was an adept story teller.

She loved to feed people and made the best gingerbread cookies. Elsie found beauty in everything and encouraged others to do their best.

She is survived by her large and loving family: her son Robert Sherwood Cone Jr. and his wife Kingsley, her son Theodore Frank Cone and his wife Pam, her son Dwight Lord Cone and his wife Valerie, her daughter Deborah (Cone) Ouellette and her husband Kenneth, her son Timothy William Cone and his special friend Lenore; 20 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband of 70 years she is predeceased by her brothers Charles and William Maly.

A memorial service will be held Friday December 9 at 7 p.m. at First Church of Christ Congregational, 499 Town St in East Haddam.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elsie's memory may be made to Middlesex Weiss Hospice Unit, c/o Middlesex Hospital Office of Philanthropy, 28 Crescent St., Middletown, CT 06457.
