Franklin Academy Overhauls School Communications System

Frontier Communications worked with school to streamline and upgrade existing system.

Connecticut’s Franklin Academy today announced it has upgraded to a new, unified communications system through Frontier Communications (NASDAQ: FTR).

Franklin Academy is the first accredited college preparatory boarding school for both boys and girls in the country dedicated exclusively to the needs of students with Nonverbal Learning Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders, including Asperger’s Syndrome. Franklin Academy is considered an educational trailblazer committed to providing students, grades 9 through 12, with the learning tools and educational environment needed to succeed.

In an effort to better serve its students, faculty and administration, Franklin Academy enlisted their current telecommunications provider Frontier Communications [NASDAQ: FTR] along with Frontier’s sales, engineering and operations teams to design and install a telecom system that would accommodate the current and future growth of the private school. Frontier’s personal attention and customer satisfaction is what ultimately lead to the development of the partnership with the school.

“Frontier is committed to providing superior customer service; due to the significant size of this 16-building campus with 70 access lines, we invested in a dedicated technician to better serve Franklin Academy’s needs,” said Frontier Account Executive David Santos “Frontier is delighted to partner with Franklin Academy and we look forward to building relationships with other private schools throughout Connecticut.”

Franklin Academy’s new system consists of separate voice and data networks, which will ensure that even if the school loses power, employees will still be able to dial out on their new phone system in the event of an emergency.

Lee Barsom, Director of Operations at Franklin Academy notes, “Our new unified system improves our communications network campus wide for our faculty and administration and will optimize our current and future student’s experience at Franklin Academy.”

Additionally, “Frontier’s solution, the Mitel MiVoice Office 250, allowed Franklin Academy to recognize a number of cost-saving measures such as utilizing Mitel Streamline to do IP traffic over existing voice wiring and embedded conferencing which allows the school to eliminate the cost of using an outside conferencing company by bringing the process entirely in house,” said Bob Osborne, Frontier’s Customer Premise Equipment Specialist, “Mitel’s “twinning” feature gives the school’s employees the ability to have their desk and cell phone simultaneously ring, enabling them to collaborate with other students, families and other employees regardless of location.”

Through Frontier Communications’ large portfolio of network and equipment services, Franklin Academy found a solution specific to their needs and budget. Franklin Academy is the latest example of Frontier’s commitment to providing the very best in communications services to organizations throughout Connecticut.
