Haddam Declares State Of Emergency Over Ice Jams
Haddam officials said they have declared a state of emergency due to ice jams along the Connecticut River.

HADDAM, CT — Haddam officials said Thursday they have declared a state of emergency due to ice jams causing flooding. The formal declaration was signed Wednesday by First Selectwoman Lizz Milardo, who asked it be forwarded to Governor Dannel P. Malloy so the state of emergency could be declared.
The declaration said the ice jams along the Connecticut River presented a danger to Haddam residents' lives and properties, and that local resources were unable to cope with the effects of the emergency.
Fox 6 1 reports that Milardo said some ice has receded, however she remains concerned about what to do if the Coast Guard ice breaker does not succeed. Officials are especially concerned for the homes near both Eagle Landing and Little Meadow Road.

According to NBC Connecticut, Milardo said safety is her number one concern, and that she wants to ensure emergency crews can reach families in affected areas if needed. Some residents have already left their homes where water has risen, Milardo said.
