Higganum Residents Lilly Diamond and Rose Esselstyn Selected to 2012 Southern Regional Music Festival
Record-Setting 29 Students from the Independent Day School were chosen for prestigious event.

Higganum residents Lilly Diamond and Rose Esselstyn, seventh-graders at Independent Day School (IDS) were selected to perform in the annual Southern Region Middle School Music Festival presented by the Connecticut Music Education Association. Lily is a tenor and Rose is an alto. They both were selected to sing in the Southern Region Chorus.
The Independent Day School, located in Middlefield, had twenty-nine (29) middle school students selected to perform in the annual Southern Region Middle School Music Festival. The festival concert is comprised of students who were selected by audition from approximately 40 localities in the region.

“This year marks a milestone for IDS, as 40 percent of our middle school students were selected for Orchestra, Band, Chorus or Jazz Band,” said John Barrengos, IDS Head of School.
“We are extremely proud of both Lilly and Rose, and our other gifted students as they continue to amaze us with their talents. We’re proud of this accomplishment, and look forward to the Festival.”

At the festival, the students will rehearse with expert conductors and educators, as well as participate in performances and professional recordings.
The Southern Region Middle School Music Festival will be held March 2 – 3, 2012 at the Lincoln Middle School in Meriden.
About the Independent Day School
The Independent Day School is a co-educational independent school for three-year-old Beginners through Grade Eight children. The school is located on rolling hills in the countryside of Middlefield.
