Killingworth Adds 2 Volunteer Firefighters
The recruits came through a statewide effort to attract members called Everyday Hero Connecticut.

The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department recently added eight new members, the most the department has added from one recruiting class, according to officials.
Statewide, volunteer departments added a total of 207 new members through a recruitment drive spearheaded by Everyday Hero Connecticut, reports The Middletown Press. The group is a partnership created by the Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
In addition to Middlefield, the Killingworth volunteer department also added two new members through the recruitment effort.

It costs the Middlefield department $1,000 per volunteer for training, which was partially paid through a grant.
“The skills and experience gained as a volunteer firefighter are invaluable and have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of others,” said Chief Fred Dudek, program manager for Everyday Hero Connecticut, in a statement, as reported by the Press. “Those who join their local fire departments sign up for one of the most rewarding opportunities they’ll ever have.”
