La Vita Gustosa Wins Chowder Cookoff

East Haddam, CTΒ β The East Haddam Economic Development Commission (EDC) would like announce the winners of the 10th Annual East Haddam Chowder Cook-off held on March 23, 2013.Β

The over 350 attendees enjoyed samples of the eight delicious chowders all from East Haddam restaurants or organizations.Β The first place βPeopleβs Choice- Best Chowderβ silver ladle trophy was awarded toΒ La Vita Gustosa, whose blue crab and corn chowder was made by new head chef, Jim Wilder.Β Second place was the offering ofΒ 32 Main, a new cafΓ© coming soon next door to the East Haddam Post Office, and third place, was co-host,Β Gelston House.Β Defending champion,Β On the Rocks at Fox Hopyard, placed fourth.
Hillside Sweet ShoppeΒ offered βmake your own candy chowder,β bringing along over 30 lbs. of sweet ingredients and winning the EDC βTable DΓ©corβ prize, best displaying the spirit of the annual community event.Β Cook-off newcomers fromΒ Franklin Academy,Β East Haddam Business AssociationΒ andΒ St. Stephenβs ChurchΒ head back to the kitchen to tweak their recipes for next year.
