‘Leaps and Bounds’ Dance Class for Children With Special Needs
Leaps and Bounds at The Dance Corner of Killingworth is dance class specifically designed for students with autism, down syndrome.
The Dance Corner of Killingworth is excited to announce a new dance program serving the special needs community. Leaps and Bounds is dance class specifically designed for students with autism, down syndrome, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and other disabilities.
Program creator and instructor, Alison Hammell, is not only a qualified dance instructor, she also holds a B.A. in special education, elementary education, and movement expression and mental health, and will complete a Master's degree in special education December 2016.
The ‘Leaps and Bounds’ class explores different types of movement while making sure students feel safe and secure. The class will start with a gentle warm up then lead into different dance movements and styles, Dancers will learn short combinations of movement and finish class with a short cool down and each dancer sharing something positive that happened in class. The class will be individualized and modified to suit the needs of every dancer.

Leaps and Bounds is offered for boys and girls ages 7 and up. The class meets weekly for 6 Fridays 9/9- 10/14 from 4:10-4:55pm. The fee is $66 for the 6-class session. There is no registration fee for this class. Special dance wear and shoes are not required. Students can wear anything they can move freely in that they are comfortable wearing.
