EAST HADDAM, CT - Court officials said a Hartford man was sentenced Wednesday for his alleged role in the overdose death of an East Haddam teenager. The suspect was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for distributing fentanyl involved in the incident, officials said.

Hector Raul Cintron, 23, of Hartford, has also been ordered to pay restitution to the victim’s family to cover funeral expenses, according to a release. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

Police said the victim was an 18-year old male, who was pronounced dead at the scene. State police subsequently seized the victim’s cell phone and multiple glassine bags containing powder residue.

Police said the victim had purchased heroin from Cintron the day before the incident. On April 4, 2016, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the victim’s cause of death to be “acute fentanyl intoxication.”

Police said the suspect sold approximately 200 bags of heroin to an individual working with law enforcement on two occasions in November 2016, and was arrested on December 15 of that year.

Court officials said the suspect plead guilty in June to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin. He was released on a $50,000 bond and ordered to report to prison on November 1.
