Obituary: David Benton Montgomery, 83, of Durham
Montgomery was town moderator of his beloved town of Durham and a deacon at The Congregational Church of Killingworth.
David Benton Montgomery, 83, of Durham, husband of the late Alice (Jensen) Montgomery for 56 years, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in West Haven on January 26, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mabel (Benton) Montgomery.
David graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven and The University of New Haven. He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954. David was employed as an engineer by Southern New England Telephone Company.
David was a strong believer that citizens should take an active role in their government. He served on various boards and committees and was Town Moderator of his beloved Town of Durham. David also believed deeply in his faith. He was a member of The Congregational Church of Killingworth and served as a deacon there.

David leaves his daughter, Pamela LaBarbiera and her husband, Mark and their son, Michael, all of Staten Island, NY and his son, David Montgomery and his wife, Chris and their daughters, Chelsea and Haley, all of Exeter, NH. He was a favorite Uncle Ben to his nieces, Marianne Sullivan of Guilford, Linda Britt of Peabody, MA, Diane Cahill of New York, NY and Donna Lee of Eaton, CO.
Along with his wife and parents, David was predeceased by his sister, Emma Jackson and brothers, William and Thomas.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at The Congregational Church of Killingworth, 273 Route 81. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Family and friends may call on Friday, Jan. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown.
