Regional School District 17 Makes the Grade
Recent results of the Connecticut Mastery Test show students in Haddam-Killingworth are performing higher than average.
Overall, this year's Connecticut Mastery Test, given to students in grades 3-8, showed an incremental increase in scores over the previous year's results. In RD 17, student scores were also slightly higher than the district's 2010 results (see charts).
The standardized mastery test is given each year to students in grades 3-8. It tests their knowledge in math, reading and writing. In grades 5 and 8, it also tests the students’ knowledge of science.
The CMT in its sixth administration of the Fourth Generation of the test and assesses approximately 250,000 students throughout the state. The CMT, according to the CT Department of Education, has five student performance levels for each content area tested: Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, Goal and Advanced.

“It is encouraging to see that our public schools are making progress by increasing the numbers of students who are moving into the Proficient level of performance and from the Proficient level into the Goal level,” commented Acting Commissioner Coleman as he reviewed the 2011 results in comparison to previous years.
“However, our greatest challenges are ahead of us. We must accelerate our efforts to improve the outcomes for those students who are at risk of scoring below Proficient, while at the same time challenging all students to perform at higher levels.”

The complete state, district and school level CMT results can be found on the CMT Online Reports website. Individual student CMT performance results will be sent to parents in September for their children.
