Sen. Chris Murphy To Host 'Opioid Epidemic Roundtable' In Haddam
Senator Chris Murphy will visit the Haddam for a meeting with medical professionals, prevention coordinators and others.

HADDAM, CT — After Connecticut saw a projected 1,076 overdose deaths in 2017, an 18 percent increase in overdose deaths over last year, Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) will visit the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department for a meeting with emergency responders, medical professionals, prevention coordinators and local elected officials.
The event will take place Friday at 3:45 p.m., according to a release.
Murphy, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, will also provide an update on his efforts to secure much-needed investments for emergency services to expand access to treatment, secure emergency federal funding and fight against harmful efforts to gut access to addiction treatment.

Murphy is co-author of the bipartisan Mental Health Reform Act, which passed into law in December 2016. The bill will expand federal resources and improve coordination for mental health and substance abuse treatment programs.
Murphy is also a co-sponsor of several bills that would provide additional funding for treatment. The Haddam Volunteer Fire Department is located at 439 Saybrook Road in Haddam.
