William Ventres of East Haddam Passes Away on Sunday

Ventres was a longtime member of the American Legion Baron-Smith-Golec Post 156 in Moodus.

 

William Edward Ventres, 82, of East Haddam, beloved husband of Mary, passed away Sunday (Jan. 8, 2012) at the Chestelm HCC in East Haddam.

Born June 10, 1929 in Hartford, he was a son of the late George and Myrtle (Frey) Ventres.

He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and went on to proudly serve with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. 

Billy worked as a welder for many years and retired from CT Yankee as Maintenance Supervisor in 1991.

He and Mary enjoyed many auto trips including a cross-country trip to many national parks as well as several summer trips to Myrtle Beach.

Billy was a longtime member of the American Legion Baron-Smith-Golec Post 156 in Moodus, but he was mostly a quiet man who loved and enjoyed his family and home overlooking Bashan Lake.

In addition to his best friend and loving wife of nearly 50 years, he is survived by his children and grandchildren that he was so proud of, daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Jim Laite; son, Harold Ventres; grandchildren, Corey and Laura Laite and William and Andrew Ventres; a sister, Joanne Walker; two brothers, Georgeand James; and numerous extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Jean Blake.

Friends may call 4 to 6 PM Wednesday (Jan. 11th) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester.  A Chapel Service with military honors will follow at 6 PM.  Graveside Services will be observed 3 PM Friday (Jan. 13th) at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 30 Church St. (Rte. 85), Hebron.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St., I-91 Tech Ctr., Rocky Hill 06067.
