Beginning Jan 1, 2014 individuals whose income is at 400% of Federal Poverty Level (about $46,000) and below will be eligible for a discount on their medical insurance premium.
Some points about Premium discounts:
+ They will be based on an individuals income and not connection to their age. Thus, a person who makes $40,000 will only have to pay an amount equal to 9.5% of their annual income. This will be $316.66 a month.
+ The health insurance company they select will send them an invoice for $316 each month and they will pay this on an after tax basis.
+ If the premium for their selected plan is $600 their premium support or discount is $284, which is calculated by subtracting $316 from the premium. This support or discount is actually an Advanced Premium Tax Credit (APTC) and will be reported as part of their annual 1040 income tax report.
