Today I spoke to man in constant pain. He was injured in an on the job acident. The acident has caused him constant pain due to nerve damage on his feet. He cannot eat nor sleep due to his condition. So the doctor prescribed Percocet, Oxicodone, and brooklyn physical therapy. He is unable to work so he is now on worker's compensation, which pays for his bill's and medical expenses. His doctor has temporarily stopped taking worker's compesation insurance so now he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. This gentleman called me today because his doctor cannot write him a prescription. He tells me that he cannot eat nor sleep without his medication. When he does sleep his feet shake due to the nerve damage. He is now currently going through withdrawal. He wants one our doctors to prescribe the drugs he needs. The problem is doctors will most likely not prescribe a powerful, addictive medication upon the first meeting of a patient for fear of losing their license. There has to be a way to help patients with legitimate pain live a pain free life without any addictive effects.
