East Lyme Youth Services Celebrate East Lyme Day
A run down of the events happening for Celebrate East Lyme Day on Liberty Green, sponsored by East Lyme Youth Services.
We at East Lyme Youth Services love Celebrate East Lyme Day!
Every year, Youth Bands start calling me in May to get their time slot to strut their stuff in front of the tens of thousands of people who come out every year to enjoy what our seaside town has to offer.
In collaboration with People's United Bank, we start looking for good dunkee candidates. Paul Formica is always a good sport, and we are very proud to be contributing our proceeds to Walking Hearts for Donna again this year. Walking Hearts sends their earnings on to the American Heart Association, a cause near and dear to the hearts of many in our community.

This year we have decided to expand our stake at Liberty Green to include face painting and lawn twister, an idea I stole from Pinterest. (If you don't know about Pinterest, look it up. It's awesome.) Lawn twister consists of literally making the lawn a Twister board, with eco-friendly paint, and a big twister spinner. There will also be a registration table for summer programs, as well as a new event that we are so excited about!
On September 7th, at 6:00 p.m., The Town of East Lyme and our local Volunteer Coordinators are holding a 5k called Jeffrey's Rainbow Run. It is to benefit the Jeffrey Bourgeois Family Fund. The Bourgeois family lost their 6 year old son, Jeffrey, in April in a tragic accident.

The community's hearts have been touched forever, and we stand in solidarity with this young family as they move forward. A beautiful double rainbow appeared on the night of his memorial, and we have taken up this symbol of hope to help his family. Please stop by the table and sign up for our walk, run, or stroll event, including a family friendly carnival @ McCook Point Park.
I would like to take the time to thank the people who work so hard to make the day a success. Heather Caulkins, the event planner, Dave Putnam, Director of Parks and Rec and Youth Services, The members of the event planning committee, (who know who you are), the always-helpful Parks and Recreation staff, Emergency Management, Police, and Fire departments, you are all a credit to the community and are appreciated!
Please see the posts for a schedule of bands, and when people will be in the dunk tank. See you all on Liberty Green. I will be there all day, come on over and say hi. Maybe even dunk our First Selectman!
