Flanders 5K(ids) Run And Walk April 28th

The 14th Annual FLANDERS 5 K(ids) RUN/WALK will be on April 28th, to benefit East Lyme Youth Services' free After-School Programming.

The 14th Annual Flanders 5K(ids) Run and Walk will be held on Sunday, April 28th. This annual event hosts hundreds of families and health enthusiasts for a morning of fun and community spirit. This year, East Lyme Youth Services will look to offset the cost of running a very successful free after-school program for our community's middle school youth. "Open Center" has kept kids engaged, and having fun in a safe and supervised setting, so parents can rest assured when having to work late, or offer their kids some independence. Youth enjoy the Youth Center with friends, play basketball outside, play Wii, air hockey, ping pong, draw in our chalkboard painted room, do homework, crafts, listen to music, and generally just relax after a long day of school. All that's required is a signed ELYS registration form! The Flanders 5K will start at 10:00 a.m. in front of the BOE building, take a right onto Upper Pattagansett, turn around after the girl scout camp, and end on the new track at East Lyme High School. ELYS Volunteers are scattered throughout the course, providing guidance and encouragement on the route. Check in and Race day Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. in front of East Lyme Aquatics Center. The official 2013 Flanders 5 K t-shirt is guaranteed for the first 200 to pre-register. Men's and Women's division champions earn a dry weave t-shirt commemorating their awesomeness. This year, we collaborated with Rachel Redding's Digital Design class at East Lyme High School to come up with the 2013 logo, and print the t-shirts. The kids races are always my favorite part of the day. Children's races will begin at 11:00 a.m. on the high school track. We start with 2-3 year olds taking the 1/4 mile loop and finishing with medals and raucous cheering! The age brackets dictate how far their race is, but youth are welcome to participate in the 5K and/or compete in the Children's Race. The pricing is as follows: youth (14 and younger) : $8 pre-registered or $10 on race dayadults (15 and older) : $10 pre-registered or $20 on race dayWe also will accept donations to ELYS. Checks should be made out to the Town of East Lyme/Flanders 5K.Thank you for your support and I'll see you at the race!
