Gallery Talk by Jan Cummings Good
Visual artist and designer Jan Cummings Good, who is exhibiting at The Cooley Gallery, will host a gallery talk and open discussion about her work and creative process.
The Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme, invites all interested folk to a talk (and dialog) with Jan Cummings Good from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 20th. She will muse about her 40 plus years of “Unfolding Impressions,” an odyssey of absorption in everyday life.
For her, humble subjects have always been the most fascinating: (1964) potatoes, suggested by her painting professor as an apt subject for watercolor study; (1982) infant mice discovered in a potato patch by her Chester neighbor; and (2011) night kills deposited on the bedroom floor by her enigmatic house cats. Subject matter, the stuff of everyday day life—including the body in which she dwells—has been constant. Only the tools, materials, techniques, technology, and the artist herself, have changed over time. All are welcome and admission is free of charge. Refreshments will be served.
"Unfolding Impressions" is Jan's premier exhibition at The Cooley Gallery of her work in various media. A color catalogue of Jan's work with an essay written by Justin Good is available upon request. “Unfolding Impressions” is on view through October 27th.
Founded in 1981 and located in the heart of historic Old Lyme, the Cooley Gallery specializes in fine American paintings from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, including the Hudson River School, American Impressionism, and select contemporary artists.
